He maintained that such actions are inconsistent with the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution, which guarantees personal liberty and fair treatment under the law.

According to Falana, law enforcement agencies should focus their investigations on individuals against whom there is credible evidence of wrongdoing rather than extending criminal investigations to family members without lawful justification.

Responding to inquiries, the Oyo State Police Command said it was not handling the matter. The command’s spokesperson, CSP Adewale Osifeso, stated that the case had been transferred to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja and directed journalists to the unit for further information.

As of the time of filing this report, the FCID had not issued an official statement confirming the arrests or explaining the circumstances surrounding the detention of the two men. It also remains unclear whether they have been formally charged with any offence.

The arrests come amid the ongoing prosecution of Adeniyi, who is facing charges bordering on alleged forgery, impersonation and related offences. Prosecutors allege that he falsely presented himself as the Director-General of the PFIPC and used the claim in dealings with members of the public.

The controversy surrounding the case intensified after the Presidency publicly distanced itself from the PFIPC, describing it as a fictitious organisation with no recognition or affiliation with the Federal Government. Authorities also cautioned Nigerians against dealing with individuals claiming to represent the organisation in any official capacity.

The latest arrests have added another dimension to the case, raising questions about the scope of the ongoing investigation and the treatment of individuals connected to criminal suspects. However, no evidence has been publicly presented linking Adeniyi’s father or the family friend to any criminal offence.

Under Nigerian law, every suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction. As investigations continue, authorities are expected to clarify the basis of the arrests and whether any charges will be filed against the two men.

The father of the self-acclaimed Director-General of the Patriotic Front for the Protection of the Interests of Citizens (PFIPC), Prince Adeyemi Adeniyi, and a family friend have been arrested in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, according to senior human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN).
