Nigeria’s main opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has taken steps to address its ongoing leadership crisis. The party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) announced the formation of a reconciliation committee aimed at easing tensions and restoring unity among its members.

The committee, made up of senior party figures, is tasked with engaging stakeholders across the country to resolve disputes that have weakened the PDP’s internal cohesion. Party leaders say the move is critical as Nigeria approaches another election cycle, with the PDP positioning itself as a viable alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Public reaction has been mixed. Supporters welcomed the initiative, describing it as “long overdue” and a chance to rebuild trust within the party. Critics, however, expressed skepticism, noting that similar committees in the past have struggled to deliver lasting solutions.

Political analysts argue that reconciliation will be key to the PDP’s survival. “Without unity, the party risks losing relevance in Nigeria’s political landscape,” said one commentator.

The BoT has urged members to put aside personal interests and focus on strengthening the party’s democratic values. The committee is expected to begin consultations in the coming weeks.
