{"id":10650,"date":"2020-08-01T19:07:59","date_gmt":"2020-08-01T19:07:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.funminews.com\/?p=10650"},"modified":"2020-08-01T19:07:59","modified_gmt":"2020-08-01T19:07:59","slug":"mr-gabe-okoye-dominating-the-united-states-political-arena","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.funminews.com\/index.php\/2020\/08\/01\/mr-gabe-okoye-dominating-the-united-states-political-arena\/","title":{"rendered":"Mr Gabe Okoye Dominating The United States Political Arena"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Mr. Gabe Okoye, a Nigerian, is one of the candidates running for the forthcoming Democratic Party\u2019s senatorial primary runoff election in the U.S. Mr. Okoye, who hails from Enugwu-Aguleri, in Anambra, is seeking the main opposition party\u2019s ticket for the Nov. 3 General Election into the Georgia State Senate to represent District 9.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Okoye, who is a chieftain of the party in the state, faces a black female challenger, Nikki Merritt, in the second round scheduled for Aug. 11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They both advanced to the runoff stage after defeating a third aspirant, Cheryle Moses, in the first round of the primary held on June 9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The winner will face the incumbent, Sen. Peter Martin, a Republican, who has been representing the district since 2015 and is seeking a fourth term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Okoye is currently a Planning Commissioner in Gwinnett County, the second-most populous local government in Georgia, and is the first black man to serve as a commissioner in the county\u2019s 202-year history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The civil engineer and founder of Georgia-based construction firm, Essex Geoscience, also currently serves on the Executive Committee Board of the Gwinnett and state chapters of the Democratic Party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0Among other goals, Okoye is seeking to capture the District 9 seat from the Republican Party, which has held it for over 30 years, \u201cwith nothing to show for it\u201d.
