{"id":13694,"date":"2025-05-16T08:02:06","date_gmt":"2025-05-16T08:02:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.funminews.com\/?p=13694"},"modified":"2025-05-16T08:02:06","modified_gmt":"2025-05-16T08:02:06","slug":"obidient-movement-calls-for-jamb-registrar-oloyedes-resignation-over-utme-controversies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.funminews.com\/index.php\/2025\/05\/16\/obidient-movement-calls-for-jamb-registrar-oloyedes-resignation-over-utme-controversies\/","title":{"rendered":"Obidient Movement&#8217; Calls For JAMB Registrar Oloyede&#8217;s Resignation Over UTME Controversies"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Obidient Movement, which is largely the supporters of Labour Party&#8217;s former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called for the immediate resignation of the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof Is-haq Oloyede.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The movement cited Oloyede&#8217;s &#8220;gross incompetence&#8221; and mishandling of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a strongly worded statement issued on Wednesday, the movement expressed outrage over what it described as a \u201csystemic failure\u201d that affected at least 379,997 candidates, predominantly from the South-East region and Lagos State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is disheartening that Prof Ishaq Oloyede has once again found himself at the centre of a controversy marked by glaring incompetence and poorly managed examination logistics,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While acknowledging that technical challenges can occasionally occur in large-scale national assessments, the group claimed the current situation was indicative of \u201cinstitutional ineptitude,\u201d compounded by a \u201csluggish and unimpressive response\u201d from JAMB.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Obidient Movement also criticised Oloyede\u2019s emotional response during a recent press briefing, describing his public shedding of tears as \u201cperformative\u201d and \u201ca distraction rather than a solution.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Further criticism was directed at JAMB\u2019s decision to mandate a retake for the affected candidates. According to the group, the Registrar had publicly admitted the issues were due to human error, not a technical failure \u2014 raising questions about the necessity and fairness of requiring another exam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, concerns were raised about JAMB&#8217;s plan to notify candidates via bulk SMS, a method the group noted has a delivery success rate of only 50\u201360 percent. \u201cWhat then becomes the fate of candidates who, through no fault of theirs, never receive such notifications?\u201d the movement asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The statement, signed by Nana Kazaure, Director of Strategic Communications and Media for the Obidient Movement, concluded with a firm demand: \u201cWe demand the immediate resignation of the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, for gross incompetence and a demonstrable lack of capacity to continue managing the affairs of JAMB.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier, we reported that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) announced that a total of 379,997 candidates in Lagos and the five South-East states would be rescheduled for another sitting of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>JAMB Registrar, Oloyede, disclosed this during a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, acknowledging that errors during the initial examination negatively affected the performance of some candidates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oloyede revealed that affected candidates will be sent messages with details of the examination rescheduled for this weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Obidient Movement, which is largely the supporters of Labour Party&#8217;s former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called for the immediate resignation of the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof Is-haq Oloyede.
