The Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Prof. Edoba Omoregie, has expressed his commitment to collaborating with the Onicha-Olona community in Delta State for a cultural and historical renaissance. This commitment was made during a meeting with a delegation from the community, who presented a book titled “History of the African Community (Ikhiomoto): The History of Onicha-Olona Kingdom.”
The book, written by Prince Ephraim Nwabuokei, highlights the historical connection between the Onicha-Olona Kingdom and the Benin Kingdom. The delegation, led by Chief Ogoliegbune, requested that the book be placed in the university’s library to preserve and disseminate the historical knowledge.
Prof. Omoregie praised the delegation for their efforts in preserving and chronicling history, emphasizing the significance of the book as a valuable resource for students and scholars. He stated that the university would play a crucial role in strengthening the historical bonds between the Onicha-Olona and Benin Kingdom.
The vice-chancellor congratulated the author and his team on their achievement, saying, “The school will play an essential role in strengthening the historical bonds between the Onicha-Olona and Benin Kingdom.” Prince Nwabuokei, in a virtual address, expressed gratitude to the vice-chancellor and the university leadership for hosting the event, highlighting the importance of documenting history to bridge gaps in collective memory.
