Following the defection of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), a key cabinet member, Ini Ememobong, has resigned from his position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Before his resignation on Friday, June 6, Ememobong served as the Commissioner for Information, Special Duties, and Ibom Deep Sea Port.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a letter addressed to Governor Eno and dated June 6, 2025, Ememobong cited the governor\u2019s directive that appointees unwilling to join him in the APC should resign from their posts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou have directed that any appointee who is unwilling to accompany you to switch from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress should resign. Ipso facto, based on my personal conviction, I hereby most respectfully tender my resignation as Honourable Commissioner for Special Duties and Ibom Deep Sea Port and a member of the State Executive Council,\u201d the letter read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Governor Eno\u2019s defection comes about six weeks after Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori also left the PDP for the APC\u2014moves many political analysts view as part of early realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speculation about Eno\u2019s defection first gained traction in April when he openly endorsed President Bola Tinubu\u2019s re-election during the flag-off of the 65-kilometre highway project in Nsit-Antai Local Government Area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Two weeks prior to the formal announcement, Eno instructed all commissioners and political appointees in his administration to either follow him to the APC or step down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Eno was elected in March 2023 and sworn into office on May 29, 2023. Before entering politics, he had a career in banking and later transitioned into the hospitality industry. He also founded the All Nations Christian Ministry International.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
