{"id":16142,"date":"2025-08-11T08:58:38","date_gmt":"2025-08-11T08:58:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.funminews.com\/?p=16142"},"modified":"2025-08-11T08:58:41","modified_gmt":"2025-08-11T08:58:41","slug":"taiwan-is-continuing-tariff-negotiations-with-us-cabinet-official-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.funminews.com\/index.php\/2025\/08\/11\/taiwan-is-continuing-tariff-negotiations-with-us-cabinet-official-says\/","title":{"rendered":"Taiwan is continuing tariff negotiations with US, cabinet official says"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"\">TAIPEI, Aug 11 (Reuters) &#8211; Taiwan&#8217;s cabinet is still negotiating for more favourable tariff rates after a 20% levy was imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, Vice Premier Cheng Li-chiun said on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">&#8220;Taiwan&#8217;s goal is to seek a better and more reasonable tariff rate from the U.S.&#8221;, Cheng told a news briefing, adding that negotiations with the U.S. are continuing, and that they are prepared to report to Taiwan&#8217;s parliament on their progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Cheng said Taiwan was hoping to continue its tariff negotiations concurrent with a U.S. national security probe, which is being conducted under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Taiwan has the sixth-largest trade deficit with the U.S., with 90% of that from semiconductors. Taiwan&#8217;s TSMC <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/companies\/2330.TW\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">(2330.TW), opens new tab<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">is the world&#8217;s biggest contract chip maker and makes chips for tech giants such as Nvidia <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/companies\/NVDA.O\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">(NVDA.O), opens new tab<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Rates for semiconductors, electronics as well as information and communication technology &#8211; which make up the bulk of Taiwan&#8217;s exports to the U.S. &#8211; will be subject to separate U.S. sectoral tariffs and are still to be worked out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Advertise With FunmiNews.
