The 20-year-old, hailed as one of the brightest prospects in the division, has his sights firmly set on making a statement before the close of 2025.

Itauma’s manager, Francis Warren, confirmed that his fighter will return to the ring in December, with talks already pointing towards a headline-making showdown. “The world is his oyster,” Warren said. “What’s next? Watch this space. If a big opportunity presents itself, we will grab it.” While Jermaine Franklin had initially been mentioned as a possible opponent, attention now appears to be shifting toward Hrgović, who has re-established himself with recent performances.

Speaking on the options available, Itauma dismissed a fight with Martin Bakole for now, citing the Congolese boxer’s recent struggles against Joseph Parker and Efe Ajagba. “Bakole used to be the boogeyman, but he has to rebuild himself before that fight makes sense,” Itauma explained. “I don’t need to be the one to give him that opportunity at zero.” Instead, the Chatham-born fighter emphasized that a contest with Hrgović would be a more significant test at this stage of his career.

For Hrgović, the bout would mark another high-profile opportunity to cement his place among the heavyweight elite. After losing to Daniel Dubois last year, the Croatian bounced back with a dominant unanimous decision victory over Britain’s Joe Joyce in Manchester earlier this April. His resurgence makes him an attractive target for Itauma, who sees the matchup as both challenging and career-defining.

Still, Itauma admitted that his team wants him tested over longer distances before such a step-up. “I think my team are keen to fight Hrgović, but they want to see me in a 10-round fight first,” he said. With December earmarked for his return, all eyes will now be on whether negotiations can be finalized for what could be the biggest fight of his career so far.

British heavyweight sensation Moses Itauma is plotting the biggest step of his young professional career, with his camp revealing plans for a potential clash against Croatian contender Filip Hrgović in December.
