Standing at 7 feet, 3 inches, Jordan Wilmore, a former overseas basketball player, has joined the department as a cadet and is already drawing attention from the community and beyond.<br><br>Wilmore, who previously worked security in Kemah, said joining law enforcement had always been a dream. \u201cIt\u2019s just a goal and dream aspiration I\u2019ve always wanted to do,\u201d he explained. \u201cI\u2019m more than just an athlete. I\u2019ve always been big on community work\u2014helping the homeless, helping people in need.\u201d His towering presence quickly made him a local figure of interest even before officially entering the police academy.<br><br>Police Chief Raymond Garivey described Wilmore as a perfect fit for the department, noting not just his size but his character. \u201cIn my 34 years, I\u2019ve never seen someone as big as Jordan,\u201d the chief remarked. \u201cHe\u2019s got a good personality, and he fits our family.\u201d Garivey even met him personally before the buzz spread on social media, underscoring the excitement around his recruitment.<br><br>Wilmore\u2019s unusual stature has presented some practical challenges for the department. Even the largest police vehicles are a tight squeeze, and the city is already working on arranging a custom patrol car, a specially fitted uniform, and a gun designed for his massive hands. Despite the adjustments needed, officials say the benefits of having him on the force far outweigh the logistical hurdles.<br><br>Wilmore is set to graduate from the police academy in December, and Chief Garivey believes he may become the tallest police officer in the country. For Wilmore, however, the mission goes beyond records.
