The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) on Monday condemned the abduction of a young lawyer, Onyesom Peace Udoka, and her sister, who were reportedly kidnapped along the Lokoja\u2013Okene highway in Kogi State while returning from the recent Call to Bar ceremony in Abuja.NBA President Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, said in a statement that the incident was \u201cunacceptable and utterly condemnable,\u201d noting that it underscored growing concerns over insecurity on Nigeria\u2019s highways. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Udoka had just been formally inducted into the legal profession before the abduction.The association urged the Federal Government and security agencies to act swiftly to secure the release of the victims and others held in captivity. It stressed that the protection of lives and property is the primary responsibility of government and called for stronger measures to restore confidence in road travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The NBA expressed solidarity with the victims\u2019 families and said it hoped for their safe return. \u201cWe pray that God grants the victims a safe and speedy return to their loved ones,\u201d Osigwe <\/p>\n\n\n\n
