The event, hosted in private schools across the state, was part of GEI\u2019s broader campaign to mark the October 11 observance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">\u201cThousands of girls across northern Nigeria are growing up amid crises \u2014 from insurgency to banditry and forced displacement,\u201d Suleiman said. \u201cMany have lost access to education, healthcare, and the basic sense of safety every child deserves.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">She emphasized that safe spaces within internally displaced persons (IDP) camps and vulnerable communities could provide critical psychosocial support, educational continuity, and mentorship. \u201cWhen girls are safe, educated, and empowered, entire communities benefit. Suleiman stressed that no girl should be left behind due to her birthplace or the instability surrounding her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The programme included a menstrual hygiene awareness campaign aimed at educating girls on health management during their periods. At Sahaba Academy, Principal Mrs. Ana praised GEI\u2019s efforts, while Proprietor Ahmed S. Fada called for increased government investment in girls\u2019 education and school health infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">GEI Programme Officer Linda Idoko encouraged girls to embrace their identity and prioritize their well-being. \u201cBeing a woman is an amazing thing,\u201d she said. \u201cWe use this opportunity to educate the girl child on the importance of menstrual hygiene and how to choose safe products to stay healthy and protected.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">This year\u2019s International Day of the Girl Child is themed \u201cThe Girl That I Am, The Change I Lead,\u201d highlighting the transformative power of girls as agents of change in their communities.
