EASTPOINTE, Mich. \u2014 A McDonald\u2019s employee accused of fatally stabbing her manager at a Detroit-area restaurant has been found competent to stand trial, officials said. Afeni Badu Muhammad, 27, of Eastpointe, is charged with first-degree premeditated murder, carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent, and being a habitual offender, second offense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She is accused of killing 39-year-old Jennifer Harris, her manager, during a shift at the McDonald\u2019s on Gratiot Avenue in Eastpointe.According to authorities, the incident occurred after Muhammad was sent home from work. She allegedly returned wearing a mask and armed with a knife, entered through the employee door, and stabbed Harris multiple times. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A customer in the drive-thru, who was lawfully carrying a concealed weapon, intervened by firing a shot and detaining Muhammad until police arrived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Muhammad was arraigned on Sept. 1 in 38th District Court. Her bond was set at $25 million cash or surety. On Oct. 8, during a status conference, Judge Kathleen Galen announced that Muhammad had been found competent to stand trial based on a forensic evaluation. A preliminary examination is scheduled for Nov. 14 at 8 a.m., where the court will determine if there is enough evidence to send the case to trial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Muhammad remains in custody at the Macomb County Jail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
