LAGOS, Nigeria (FN)<\/strong> \u2014 Nigeria\u2019s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a blistering attack on former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, accusing him of \u201cpolitical selective amnesia\u201d and branding him the \u201cundisputed master defector\u201d in Nigerian politics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rebuke came in response to Obi\u2019s recent remarks dismissing the wave of defections from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC across the Southeast and South-South, claiming \u201cnobody can capture the South-East with defections.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the APC\u2019s Lagos State chapter fired back, calling Obi\u2019s comments hypocritical and desperate. \u201cObi\u2019s statement is long on drama but short on logic \u2014 a desperate attempt to stay politically relevant in a fast-evolving Nigeria that has moved on from empty populism,\u201d said party spokesman Seye Oladejo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oladejo accused Obi of lacking the moral authority to criticize defections, citing his own political trajectory from the All-Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to the PDP and then to the Labour Party. \u201cIf there were a trophy for political cross-carpeting, Obi would be its unchallenged winner,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The APC also claimed that Obi\u2019s influence in the Southeast is waning, and that the region\u2019s alignment with the ruling party reflects a shift toward \u201cnational mainstream inclusion\u201d rather than coercion. \u201cThe South-East is not his fiefdom,\u201d Oladejo added. \u201cDivisive and religious politics no longer have a place in a country that is finally embracing unity and progress under the Renewed Hope Agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Obi, who galvanized youth support in the 2023 elections, has yet to respond to the accusations.
