Former senator and businessman, Ben Murray-Bruce, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing President Bola Tinubu\u2019s economic policies and leadership style as his major reasons for switching allegiance.

Murray-Bruce, who represented Bayelsa East Senatorial District in the 8th National Assembly, made the announcement during a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday. The media mogul praised Tinubu\u2019s \u201cbold and visionary\u201d economic reforms, describing them as essential for Nigeria\u2019s recovery and long-term growth.

\u201cI have watched President Tinubu take decisive steps to stabilize the economy, attract foreign investments, and lay the groundwork for industrial development,\u201d Murray-Bruce said. \u201cThese are the kinds of moves Nigeria needs, and I want to be part of this progress.\u201d

He explained that his decision to join the APC was driven by conviction rather than personal gain, noting that his commitment to Nigeria\u2019s development transcends political boundaries. According to him, \u201cParty lines should never divide patriots who share a vision for national progress.\u201d

The former lawmaker also lauded the administration\u2019s efforts in the technology, energy, and creative sectors, areas he described as \u201cpivotal to future prosperity.\u201d He emphasized that Nigeria\u2019s creative economy, which employs millions of young people, needs more government support\u2014a cause he intends to champion under the APC.

Reacting to his defection, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka welcomed Murray-Bruce, calling him \u201ca valuable addition\u201d to the party\u2019s growing list of technocrats and reform-minded leaders. Morka noted that the former senator\u2019s experience in business and media will contribute to the administration\u2019s innovation-driven agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Political analysts have described Murray-Bruce\u2019s move as significant, especially given his long-standing affiliation with the PDP and his reputation as a critic of the ruling party in previous years. Within PDP circles, reactions have been mixed. A senior member of the party in Bayelsa, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the move was \u201cdisappointing but not unexpected,\u201d citing internal dissatisfaction among some party loyalists over recent leadership decisions.

Murray-Bruce, founder of the Silverbird Group and a prominent advocate of youth empowerment, reaffirmed his belief in \u201ca new Nigeria powered by innovation and inclusion.\u201d He vowed to continue using his influence to promote policies that support job creation and sustainable growth.
