The controversy followed a visit by Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Policy Communication, to the CAN Secretariat in Abuja. Bwala reportedly sought clarification on CAN\u2019s response to recent remarks by U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, who described the killings as a \u201cChristian genocide.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">\u201cCAN made it clear that its position on this issue has long been established and remains unchanged,\u201d Okoh said. \u201cAcross many parts of Northern Nigeria and the Middle Belt, Christian communities have suffered repeated, organized and brutal attacks which have left thousands dead, villages destroyed and families displaced. These are not isolated crimes but a continuing pattern of violence that has persisted for years without justice or closure.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"420\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.funminews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/image-217.png?fit=750%2C420&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21689\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.funminews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/image-217.png?w=750&amp;ssl=1 750w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.funminews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/image-217.png?resize=300%2C168&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.funminews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/image-217.png?resize=696%2C390&amp;ssl=1 696w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">CAN President Archbishop Daniel Okoh.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">CAN expressed alarm over a subsequent press release from the presidency titled \u201cPresidency Debunks Western Christian Genocide Narrative in Dialogue with CAN Leadership,\u201d which it said falsely portrayed Archbishop Okoh as having dismissed the genocide claims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">\u201cThat portrayal is completely false and grossly unfair,\u201d Okoh said. \u201cThe meeting was recorded by CAN\u2019s media team, and at no point did I use such words or express such a view. Referring to the tragedy as a \u2018so-called genocide\u2019 trivializes the pain of countless Christians who have lost loved ones, homes and places of worship in targeted attacks.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">During the meeting, Bishop Mike Akpami, CAN\u2019s Director of Planning, Research and Strategy, presented data from the Observatory of Religious Freedom in Africa (ORFA), showing consistent and targeted attacks on Christians across several regions of Africa, including Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">CAN listed attendees at the meeting, including Archbishop Okoh; Vice President Rev. Stephen Panya Baba; General Secretary Apostle Samson Fatokun; Dean Rev. Emmanuel Nicodemus Ozumba; Legal Affairs Director Dame Comfort Otera Chigbue; Bishop Mike Akpami; Prophet Commodore Abimbola Ayuba; Rev. Dr. Simon Dolly; and Dr. Victor Ivoke, Senior Special Assistant to the CAN President.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The association clarified that Rev.
