ABUJA, Nigeria (FN) \u2014 President Bola Tinubu on Friday dismissed Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa and other top military leaders in a sweeping overhaul of Nigeria\u2019s security command.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move, announced by presidential spokesperson Sunday Dare, is part of efforts to \u201cstrengthen the national security architecture.\u201d General Olufemi Oluyede has been appointed as the new Chief of Defence Staff. Other appointments include Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff. Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye retains his position as Chief of Defence Intelligence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, expresses most profound appreciation to the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and the other Service Chiefs for their patriotic service and dedicated leadership,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Senate President Godswill Akpabio welcomed the appointments, describing them as \u201ca bold step toward revitalizing Nigeria\u2019s security apparatus.\u201d He urged the new service chiefs to \u201cact swiftly and decisively in addressing the nation\u2019s pressing security challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reactions from the public were mixed. Some citizens expressed hope that the new leadership would bring fresh energy to the fight against insecurity, while others voiced concern over the abrupt nature of the changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe need results, not just reshuffling,\u201d said Abuja resident Ibrahim Lawal. \u201cI hope these new chiefs understand the urgency of our situation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is long overdue,\u201d said Grace Nwankwo, a civil society advocate in Enugu. \u201cThe previous leadership had its strengths, but Nigeria needs a more proactive and responsive military.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
