LAGOS, Nigeria (FN) \u2014 Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and senior police officials have expressed deep sorrow over the death of a divisional police officer who died during surgery in the state, describing the incident as a painful loss to the force and the community.

The officer, identified as CSP Akinwale Adedeji, reportedly died on Friday at a private hospital after complications arose during a medical procedure. Details of the surgery were not disclosed.

In a statement released Saturday, Governor Sanwo-Olu said Adedeji\u2019s death was \u201ca tragic loss to the Lagos State Police Command and the people he served with courage and integrity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCSP Adedeji was not just a fine officer; he was a dedicated public servant who gave his all to keep Lagos safe,\u201d Sanwo-Olu said. \u201cHis passing reminds us of the sacrifices made daily by those who stand between order and chaos.\u201d

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, described Adedeji as \u201ca fearless, disciplined and compassionate leader\u201d whose absence would be deeply felt. \u201cHe led with humility and strength. His men trusted him because he led by example,\u201d Fayoade said.

Adedeji\u2019s colleagues at the station where he served said he was known for his fairness and professionalism. \u201cHe always encouraged us to put humanity first,\u201d said Inspector Sunday Adeola. \u201cHe treated both junior officers and citizens with respect.\u201d

Family members, struggling to come to terms with his death, described him as a devoted husband and father. His widow, Mrs. Adedeji, said through tears that her husband \u201cloved his job, sometimes more than himself.\u201d

\u201cHe always said his greatest joy was serving his country,\u201d she said. \u201cWe prayed for his recovery, but God had other plans.\u201d

Community members also expressed shock at the loss. \u201cHe was approachable, calm, and always present in times of crisis,\u201d said local youth leader Bamidele Ojo. \u201cOur community has lost a rare officer who truly cared.\u201d

The Lagos Police Command said arrangements were underway for a memorial service and promised to support the late officer\u2019s family during this period.
