OGUN, Nigeria (FN) Florence Okpe, spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State, has died following a prolonged illness. She passed away in her hometown in Cross River State on Tuesday, October 28.

Okpe, who held the rank of Chief Route Commander and served as the Public Education Officer for the Ogun State Sector Command, had been on medical leave for several months. Her death was confirmed by Sector Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin, who described her as \u201ca sound, resourceful, and professional officer of unparalleled dedication.\u201d

She had been receiving treatment in Ogun before traveling to Cross River to be with family. Her passing has left a deep void in the FRSC and among the many communities she served through her public safety campaigns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ogun State Government expressed condolences through the Commissioner for Transportation, who praised Okpe\u2019s commitment to road safety. \u201cShe was a tireless advocate for public education and traffic discipline. Her work saved lives and inspired many,\u201d the commissioner said.

The Minister of Interior also issued a statement, calling her \u201ca model of integrity and service in uniform.\u201d He noted that her contributions to national safety campaigns would be remembered as part of the FRSC\u2019s institutional legacy.

Media professionals who worked with Okpe described her as a reliable and respectful liaison. \u201cShe was always available, always clear, and always professional,\u201d said a senior journalist based in Abeokuta. \u201cShe understood the importance of timely and accurate information.\u201d

Civil society groups, including the Road Safety Advocacy Coalition, paid tribute to her role in reducing traffic fatalities. \u201cHer voice was a constant reminder of the need for vigilance and responsibility on our roads,\u201d the group said in a statement.

The Penpushing Media Foundation, where Okpe was an active contributor, described her as \u201ca bridge between the Corps and the public.\u201d The organization noted her ability to communicate complex safety issues in relatable terms.

The FRSC national headquarters is reportedly planning a posthumous commendation in her honor. Colleagues across the country have held moments of silence and shared personal tributes on social media, reflecting on her legacy of service.
