LAGOS, Nigeria (FN) \u2014 Prince Odi Okojie, a federal lawmaker and husband of Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson, is facing public backlash over his renovation of the Our Lady of Lourdes Girls Grammar School in Uromi, Edo State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project, facilitated through the National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC), includes major infrastructure upgrades such as a new science laboratory, ICT building, solar installations, and classroom renovations. Okojie said the initiative was inspired by his childhood and the school\u2019s legacy in empowering young girls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI am pleased to report that the contractors are demonstrating exceptional diligence, with the project poised to reach approximately 95% completion,\u201d Okojie said during a recent inspection. He emphasized that the upgrades would significantly enhance the learning environment for students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\nThe renovation includes: Construction and equipping of a state-of-the-art science laboratory, Construction and equipping of a modern ICT building, Renovation of two blocks of seven classrooms each, Installation of three 10KVA inverter systems, Provision of a borehole and overhead water tank, Installation of solar-powered street lights, and External works including a gatehouse and erosion control.<\/p>\n\n\n\nDespite the scope of the project, Okojie has come under fire from critics who questioned the transparency and completeness of the work. Social media users accused him of showcasing an unfinished project and alleged mismanagement of public funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\nIn response, a spokesperson for the NSSEC defended the initiative, stating that the project followed due process and was part of a broader federal effort to improve secondary education infrastructure. \u201cWe commend Hon. Okojie for his commitment to educational development. The project is on track and aligns with our national standards,\u201d the official said.<\/p>\n\n\n\nThe school\u2019s principal, Sister Mary Agatha, expressed gratitude for the renovation, saying it would transform the learning experience for students. \u201cWe\u2019ve never had facilities like these before.
