(FN) \u2014 A San Bernardino County sheriff\u2019s deputy was shot and killed Monday while responding to a domestic violence call, prompting a high-speed pursuit that ended in a crash and the suspect\u2019s hospitalization, authorities said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Deputy Andrew Nunez, a six-year veteran of the department, was struck in the head by gunfire shortly after arriving at the scene on Hollyhock Drive around 12:42 p.m. He was airlifted to a hospital, where he later died.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Sheriff Shannon Dicus identified Nunez during a press conference, calling him \u201ca man of integrity and courage.\u201d He added, \u201cAndrew was a protector \u2014 not just in uniform, but at home. His loss is immeasurable.\u201d Nunez is survived by his pregnant wife, their 2-year-old daughter, his mother, and four siblings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"1280\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 720 \/ 1280;\" width=\"720\" controls src=\"https:\/\/www.funminews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/AQPiEGUe3ifCM-fs39AGy42FfTRpjkrc4ljGkO2Jlw_FNWW1nN9EWcs_V3t-LGZ4DhjjnYgwYrABK5yIEO-6pROjZnlZazQGRFjwgo4CN37CiA.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The suspect opened fire almost immediately upon deputies\u2019 arrival, then fled on a motorcycle, reaching speeds of up to 200 mph. He was eventually ejected from the bike after colliding with a vehicle on the 210 Freeway in Ontario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Dicus later revealed the vehicle was driven by an off-duty deputy who had placed himself on duty and \u201cconducted a legal intervention\u201d to stop the suspect. The suspect, whose identity has not been released, remains hospitalized in stable condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">District Attorney Jason Anderson said his office is treating the case as the murder of a peace officer and will file charges once the suspect is medically cleared. \u201cThis was a deliberate act of violence against someone who swore to protect others,\u201d Anderson said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">California Governor Gavin Newsom issued a statement expressing condolences to the Nunez family and praising the deputy\u2019s service. \u201cDeputy Nunez gave his life in defense of others.
