JALINGO, Nigeria (FN)<\/strong> \u2014 A senior adviser to Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has confirmed that the governor is considering a move to Nigeria\u2019s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the potential defection as a strategic step toward boosting federal support and development in the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Josiah Kente, Special Adviser on Political Matters and Special Duties, said Kefas\u2019 alignment with the APC would position Taraba for increased inclusion in national programs and infrastructure projects. He emphasized that the proposal was rooted in the broader interests of Taraba residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis call is anchored not on partisan interest but on the collective aspiration of the people of Taraba for sustainable progress, infrastructural transformation, and inclusion in national affairs,\u201d Kente said in a statement issued in Jalingo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kente praised Kefas\u2019 leadership since taking office in 2023, citing achievements in education, healthcare, and infrastructure. He argued that these gains could be amplified through closer collaboration with the federal government, which is controlled by the APC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that the move was not driven by personal ambition or political gain, but by a strategic vision for Taraba\u2019s long-term development. \u201cThe times call for bold, strategic decisions that transcend party sentiment in favor of the people\u2019s welfare,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kente called on youth groups, community leaders, and political stakeholders to support the governor in what he described as a \u201crealignment for growth and prosperity.\u201d He said such unity would strengthen Taraba\u2019s voice in national affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Governor Kefas was elected on the platform of the opposition People\u2019s Democratic Party (PDP), which has governed Taraba since Nigeria\u2019s return to democracy in 1999. A defection to the APC would mark a significant political shift and end the PDP\u2019s 26-year dominance in the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
