WASHINGTON (FN)<\/strong> \u2014 The release of Jeffrey Epstein\u2019s government files now depends on President Donald Trump\u2019s signature after Congress overwhelmingly approved legislation requiring the Justice Department to make the records public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Epstein Files Transparency Act<\/strong> passed the House on Tuesday with only one dissenting vote and cleared the Senate unanimously. The measure directs the Justice Department to release the files within 30 days of becoming law, while protecting survivors\u2019 personal information and sensitive material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump had initially opposed the bill but dropped his resistance earlier this week. His signature would set in motion the disclosure of documents that could include correspondence, investigation notes and records of Epstein\u2019s network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lawmakers<\/strong> described the vote as a rare show of bipartisan unity. \u201cThis is about accountability. The public deserves to know the full scope of Epstein\u2019s crimes and connections,\u201d said Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D\u2011Conn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Survivors\u2019 advocates<\/strong> cautiously welcomed the move. \u201cWe want the truth out, but we also want to protect those who lived through this nightmare,\u201d said a spokesperson for a victims\u2019 rights group. Some survivors expressed relief that their voices were finally being heard, while others worried about renewed trauma once the files are made public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Civil society organizations<\/strong> praised the bipartisan unity but warned against political exploitation. \u201cThe release must not become a partisan weapon. It should serve justice and truth,\u201d said Transparency International\u2019s U.S. office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Analysts<\/strong> said the disclosure could reignite scrutiny of Epstein\u2019s ties to powerful figures worldwide. \u201cThe files may reshape public understanding of how far Epstein\u2019s influence reached,\u201d said a Georgetown University researcher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Epstein, accused of sex trafficking minors, died in federal custody in 2019. His associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, was convicted in 2021 of aiding his crimes.
