By tomorrow, we will be launching the first batch of 20 electric buses\u2026 From now until sometime in January, these electric buses will be free of charge for everyone in Abia,\u201d<br>\u2014 Governor Alex Otti<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">20 Electric Buses Launched, 80 More Coming<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">According to verified reports, Abia has taken delivery of the first 20 electric buses, marking the beginning of the state-owned Abia Green Shuttle Electric Bus Service. The remaining 80 units are expected to arrive next year as part of a 100\u2011bus rollout plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The buses are 42\u2011seater, custom-built EVs with a driving range of up to 400 km per charge, designed to operate across major routes in Umuahia, Aba, Ohafia, Umunneochi, and Ukwa LGAs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A First in Nigeria<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Abia is now positioned to become the first Nigerian state to operate a fully state-owned electric bus mass\u2011transit system, according to the Abia State Government and multiple news Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, <strong>Dr. Ngozi Okonjo\u2011Iweala<\/strong>, attended the commissioning of the first batch of electric buses, praising the initiative as \u201cvisionary\u201d and a major step toward cleaner, healthier cities <a href=\"https:\/\/punchng.com\/okonjo-iweala-joins-otti-for-electric-buses-rollout-in-abia\/\">The Punch<\/a> <a although Africa contributes only about 3% of global carbon emissions, initiatives like Abia\u2019s electric bus scheme show leadership in climate\u2011friendly innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Free Rides Through the Festive Season<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The state government confirmed that the electric buses will offer <strong>free intra\u2011city and inter\u2011city rides<\/strong> throughout the Christmas and New Year period, easing the financial burden on residents and visitors during the holidays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The free service aligns with Otti\u2019s view that <strong>public transportation is a social service<\/strong>, not a luxury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cOnce
