LAGOS, Nigeria (FN)<\/strong> \u2014 American livestreaming sensation IShowSpeed, whose real name is Darren Watkins Jr., is the world\u2019s biggest streamer and one of the most recognizable online entertainers, known for his high-energy antics, unpredictable humor, and massive global following. He touched down in Nigeria this week to a hero\u2019s welcome, drawing throngs of fans who chased his convoy through the streets of Lagos as he celebrated his 21st birthday and became the first Black creator to reach 50 million YouTube subscribers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Watkins, born in Ohio, arrived Tuesday as part of his \u201cSpeed Does Africa\u201d tour, a 28-day journey across 20 countries. His arrival sparked viral scenes as hundreds of young Nigerians sprinted after his vehicle, chanting his name and pleading for money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He has used the tour to spotlight African culture for his global audience. In Lagos, he visited the Nike Art Gallery, donned traditional dansiki attire, and danced with Bata performers. He also toured Balogun Market and Freedom Park, livestreaming the bustling atmosphere to millions worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Local rapper Zlatan welcomed him with a birthday cake at his ZTTW shop, underscoring the crossover appeal between Nigeria\u2019s music scene and the online creator economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Watkins also met with Nigerian content creator Jarvis, a rising figure in the country\u2019s digital scene. The meeting, widely shared online, symbolized the growing connections between international influencers and Africa\u2019s expanding creator community. The visit was not without drama. Nigerian streamer Peller made repeated attempts to meet Watkins, even climbing onto his vehicle, but the American star refused to engage.
