ABUJA, Nigeria (FN), Nafiu Bala, factional chairman of the African Democratic Congress, has denied reports that he resigned from his position, alleging that his signature was forged on a letter circulating online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bala, speaking in Hausa in a video that has since gone viral, said the document dated May 2025 did not emanate from him. \u201cMy name is Hon. Nafiu Bala, the ADC acting national chairman,\u201d he said. \u201cI wish to state that this paper did not come from me, and that my signature was forged.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His denial comes days after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) issued a resolution on the ADC\u2019s leadership crisis, recognizing the party\u2019s National Working Committee led by Chief Ralphs Okey Nwosu. Bala\u2019s faction has contested that decision, insisting that his leadership remains valid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ADC\u2019s media office also dismissed the letter as fraudulent, noting it lacked the party\u2019s official insignia. Bala described the document as a deliberate attempt to mislead members and destabilize the party. He reaffirmed his loyalty to the ADC and vowed to continue leading despite what he called \u201cdesperate tactics\u201d by political opponents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Party officials said Bala remains in office and continues to lead in line with the ADC constitution, which requires any aspirant for leadership to be a financial member for at least one year. Bala urged security agencies to investigate the forgery and bring those responsible to justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incident underscores ongoing divisions within the ADC, which has faced repeated leadership disputes in recent years.
