ILE\u2011IFE, Nigeria (FN), <\/strong>Obafemi Awolowo University has declined to host a scheduled lecture by former presidential candidate Peter Obi, saying organizers failed to provide sufficient notice to allow for security and logistical preparations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

University officials explained that events involving high\u2011profile political figures require coordination with security agencies and campus administrators, and that the short timeframe made it impossible to guarantee safety. The lecture was therefore canceled to protect students, staff, and visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Obi, the Labour Party\u2019s candidate in Nigeria\u2019s 2023 presidential election, has been touring universities and civic spaces to engage young audiences on governance and economic reform. His planned appearance at OAU was expected to draw a large crowd, underscoring the logistical challenges of hosting such events on short notice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
