NEW DELHI (FN)<\/strong>, India has formally invited Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to attend the 2026 India\u2013Africa Forum Summit in New Delhi on May 31, underscoring Nigeria\u2019s central role in Africa\u2013India relations. The summit will focus on trade, cultural exchange, and strategic cooperation, with India pledging support for Nigeria\u2019s textile and manufacturing sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The invitation was extended by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who asked Tinubu to lead Nigeria\u2019s delegation. The summit, themed IA SPIRIT \u2013 India Africa Strategic Partnership for Innovation, Resilience, and Inclusive Transformation<\/em>, will be preceded by a senior officials\u2019 meeting on May 28 and a foreign ministers\u2019 meeting on May 29.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nigeria\u2019s importance to the summit stems from its status as Africa\u2019s largest democracy and one of the continent\u2019s biggest economies. Bilateral trade between Nigeria and India is currently valued at $8\u20139 billion annually, with both sides seeking expansion. Beyond economics, cultural ties are growing, with Nigerian Afrobeats stars such as Wizkid and Davido enjoying rising popularity in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The summit agenda includes economic dialogue on market access and industrial cooperation, political discussions on security and governance, and cultural exchange through music, dance festivals, and business forums. India has already extended $10 billion in lines of credit to African nations and completed $4.5 billion worth of projects across the continent, positioning itself as a key development partner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
