The 12th Africa Magic Viewers\u2019 Choice Awards (AMVCA) concluded on Saturday night at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, celebrating excellence in African film, television, and digital storytelling. The ceremony, which began at 7 p.m., brought together actors, filmmakers, and digital creators from across the continent in a dazzling showcase of talent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The night\u2019s biggest triumph belonged to My Father\u2019s Shadow<\/em>, which swept Best Movie, Best Director, Best Sound Design, and Best Writing (Movie). Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman made history by winning both Best Lead Actress for The Serpent\u2019s Gift<\/em> and Best Supporting Actress for The Herd<\/em>, becoming the first performer to achieve a double acting win in the same year. Uzor Arukwe won Best Lead Actor for Colours of Fire<\/em>, while Bucci Franklin took home Best Supporting Actor for To Kill A Monkey<\/em>. Franklin\u2019s victory drew widespread reactions from fans and colleagues, many of whom praised his versatility and described the award as \u201clong overdue.\u201d On social media, Nollywood stars congratulated him, while fans celebrated his rise from supporting roles to mainstream recognition. Other notable awards included Best Cinematography for To Kill A Monkey<\/em>, and recognition of indigenous films such as Lisabi: A Legend Is Born<\/em> (West Africa), Addis Fikir<\/em> (East Africa), Tlhaho Ya Mosadi<\/em> (Southern Africa), Artal Alhanin: Our Memories<\/em> (North Africa), and Mabanda<\/em> (Central Africa). The Best Digital Content Creator award went to Leave To Live<\/em> by Emmanuel Kanaga and Sophia Chisom, underscoring the growing influence of online storytelling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The full list of major winners and nominees reflected the diversity of African cinema. In Best Movie, My Father\u2019s Shadow<\/em> triumphed over The Herd<\/em>, Gingerrr<\/em>, 3 Cold Dishes<\/em>, The Serpent\u2019s Gift<\/em>, and Behind The Scenes<\/em>. Akinola Davies Jr. won Best Director for My Father\u2019s Shadow<\/em>, ahead of Tunde Kelani (Cordelia<\/em>), James Omokwe (Osamede<\/em>), Daniel Etim Effiong (The Herd<\/em>), Yemi Morafa (Gingerrr<\/em>), and Asurf Amuwa (3 Cold Dishes<\/em>). Uzor Arukwe\u2019s Best Lead Actor win came against nominees including Lateef Adedimeji (Lisabi: A Legend Is Born<\/em>), William Benson (To Kill A Monkey<\/em>), Mike Ezuruonye (Oversabi Aunty<\/em>), Kanayo O. Kanayo (Grandpa Must Obey<\/em>), Khumbuza Meyiwa (Bet I Love You<\/em>), Wale Ojo (3 Cold Dishes<\/em>), and Femi Branch (Red Circle<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Best Lead Actress, Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman\u2019s victory for The Serpent\u2019s Gift<\/em> stood out among nominees Bimbo Akintola (To Kill A Monkey<\/em>), Ifeoma Fafunwa (The Lost Days<\/em>), Ariyike Owolagba (Something About The Briggs<\/em>), Sola Sobowale (Her Excellency<\/em>), Scarlet Gomez (Behind The Scenes<\/em>), Genoveva Umeh (The Herd<\/em>), and Gloria Anozie-Young (Mother Of The Brides<\/em>). Bucci Franklin\u2019s Best Supporting Actor win for To Kill A Monkey<\/em> came against Lateef Adedimeji (Gingerrr<\/em>), Simileoluwa Hassan (The Yard<\/em>), Femi Branch (Owambe Thieves<\/em>), Gabriel Afolayan (Colours Of Fire<\/em>), Femi Adebayo (King Of Thieves 2<\/em>), and Uzor Arukwe (Behind The Scenes<\/em>). Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman also won Best Supporting Actress for The Herd<\/em>, ahead of Olamide Kidbaby (Oversabi Aunty<\/em>), Bisola Aiyeola (Gingerrr<\/em>), Nadia Dutch (Aljana<\/em>), Sola Sobowale (The Covenant<\/em>), Amal Umar (The Herd<\/em>), Juliebrenda Nyambura (MTV Shuga Mashariki<\/em>), and Funke Akindele (Behind The Scenes<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Technical awards included Best Costume Design for Colours of Fire<\/em> (Valerie Okeke), Best Makeup for Warlord<\/em> (Hakeem Onilogbo), Best Art Direction for Colours of Fire<\/em> (Ajamolaya Bunmi), and Best Editing for To Kill A Monkey<\/em> (Daniel Anyiam).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The prestigious Industry Merit Awards were presented to veteran actors Kanayo O. Kanayo and Sola Sobowale for their decades of contribution to Nollywood. Kanayo\u2019s acceptance speech drew laughter and applause when he played on his long-running joke about \u201csacrifice,\u201d saying: \u201cI have made a lot of sacrifices \u2014 but tonight, it is for the love of cinema and the growth of our industry.\u201d Sobowale, equally emotional, thanked Nollywood for giving her a platform to inspire generations of actors and audiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
