The lights of Nollywood have dimmed, and I find myself struggling to put words to the pain of losing my dear friend, Alex Ekubo. His passing is not just the loss of a celebrated actor and entertainer it is the loss of a brother, a confidant, and a man whose laughter and dreams carried us through long nights on set and countless conversations about life and the future of Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am extremely saddened by the passing of my good friend, Alex Ekubo. We were on the set of Soup-A-Stars with Segun Arinze and Ibinabo Fiberesima together and appeared on several other sets and remained friends. He was young, vibrant and full of life and hope for our future as a nation. Life is truly brief, but we must live it to the fullest.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I remember Alex was the heartbeat of every production. On set, he was vibrant, cracking jokes to ease tension, lifting spirits when fatigue set in, and reminding us all why we chose this path. He treated everyone equally whether you were a director, a crew member, or a newcomer finding your footing. He never made anyone feel small.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I recall working alongside him with Tiwa Savage and Regina Askia moments that brought together music, film, and culture in ways that reminded us of Nollywood\u2019s power to unite. Alex\u2019s energy in those collaborations was unmatched; he carried himself with humility even in the presence of icons, always ensuring everyone felt valued.<\/p>\n\n\n

Behind the scenes, we shared laughter, meals, and quiet talks about our country. He believed in Nigeria\u2019s potential, and he carried that hope into his art. His charisma was magnetic, but it was his kindness that truly defined him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alex was a private man, but those who knew him understood the depth of his heart. He was full of dreams, ambition, and humor. He had a way of making you feel seen, no matter your status. That was his gift he gave dignity to everyone he encountered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alex\u2019s career was marked by versatility and brilliance. He rose to prominence with roles in films such as In the Cupboard, Weekend Getaway, and The First Lady. His performance in True Citizen earned him critical acclaim, while his role in Dreams showcased his depth as an actor. He was also recognized with awards, including the Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the Best of Nollywood Awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His passing has shaken Nollywood to its core. Colleagues, fans, and admirers across Nigeria, Africa, and the world are mourning. The grief reminds me of other painful moments when cinema lost its brightest lights too soon. These sudden departures leave wounds that never fully heal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alex\u2019s passing is part of a painful history Nollywood and global cinema know too well. In Nigeria, the industry has mourned talents like Patience Ugwu, Columbus Irosanga, and Allwell Ademola each loss leaving colleagues and fans shaken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Worldwide, audiences have grieved stars such as Chadwick Boseman, whose role in Black Panther inspired millions, Irrfan Khan of Life of Pi fame, and Robin Williams, whose humor masked deep struggles. Each departure reminds us of life\u2019s fragility and the enduring power of legacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alex Ekubo\u2019s life was a testament to the power of kindness, ambition, and humanity. Though death has silenced his voice, it cannot erase the echoes of his laughter, his dreams, and his love for people. My friend is gone, but the memories remain and they will outlive death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
