The United States has confirmed it will waive visa bond requirements of up to 15,000 dollars for fans from five African nations attending the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The waiver applies to ticket holders from Algeria, Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, Senegal, and Tunisia who registered through FIFA\u2019s visa facilitation system by April 15, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The U.S. Department of State said the decision was made after months of discussions with FIFA, the Department of Homeland Security, and the White House. Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs Mora Namdar stated: \u201cWe are waiving visa bonds for qualified fans who bought World Cup tickets.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The visa bond policy was introduced in 2025 under President Donald Trump\u2019s administration for travelers from 50 countries considered to have high rates of visa overstays. Applicants were required to pay between 5,000 dollars and 15,000 dollars, refundable if they complied with visa rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The waiver is expected to ease travel for African fans, many of whom had raised concerns about the financial burden. African fans celebrated the waiver but noted challenges remain, including high travel costs, slow visa processing, and soaring ticket resale prices, with some seats reportedly exceeding 30,000 dollars.
