President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose second term will expire on July 31, 2026. The announcement was made Thursday by the President\u2019s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aina, 39, is a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, and is widely recognized for his expertise in examination systems, digital infrastructure, and institutional reforms. He studied in the United Kingdom, earning a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, followed by an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also attended the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His relationship with JAMB began during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program, where he gained early experience in admissions processes and data management systems. That exposure influenced his later work in examination reforms and systems optimization. Over the past 15 years, Aina has consulted for major examination bodies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), and several state ministries of education, focusing on ICT systems, examination integrity, and digital transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Set to become JAMB\u2019s youngest registrar, Aina turns 40 in July. He was previously recognized as one of Nigeria\u2019s youngest professors of Computer Engineering and is a member of several professional organizations, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). Speaking shortly after his promotion to professor, he attributed his success to both hard work and smart work, saying, \u201cIt is not just about working hard; you need to work smart.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
