KATSINA, Nigeria (AP) \u2014 Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has been endorsed as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Katsina State, after party delegates and leaders affirmed his candidacy through a consensus vote. The decision strengthens APC\u2019s hold on one of Nigeria\u2019s most politically influential states and sets the stage for a competitive race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delegates gathered at the People\u2019s Square in Katsina to voice their support, with party officials describing the process as peaceful and transparent. \u201cThis shows unity and discipline within the APC family in Katsina,\u201d said Yakubu Maccido, head of the electoral committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Radda, 54, is not just a politician but a familiar figure to many in Katsina. Born in a rural community, he worked his way up through teaching, local government service, and eventually national leadership as head of Nigeria\u2019s small business agency, SMEDAN. He became governor in 2023 and has focused on tackling insecurity, improving schools, and supporting farmers. For many residents, his story is one of rising from modest beginnings to lead a state that has produced national figures like former President Muhammadu Buhari.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Katsina has struggled with violent attacks by armed groups known locally as bandits, who raid villages and disrupt farming.
