DUTSE, Nigeria (AP)<\/strong> \u2014 The National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Jigawa State has urged Nigerians to embrace sacrifice, discipline and patriotism as Muslims across the country joined the global community to mark Eid al\u2011Adha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement issued Wednesday in Dutse by NOA Head of Communication and Media Sarah Ogodo on behalf of State Director Ahmad Ibrahim, the agency said the lessons of the festival should guide national conduct and strengthen unity. Ibrahim noted that Eid al\u2011Adha, which commemorates Prophet Ibrahim\u2019s obedience to God, carries direct lessons for Nigeria\u2019s present challenges. He identified sacrifice, compassion and selflessness as values that must extend beyond the prayer ground into homes, workplaces and public life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNational unity is not built by slogans alone. It is built when citizens demonstrate faith in God, love for country and responsibility to one another,\u201d Ibrahim said. He added that citizens must show patriotism by supporting lawful authority, obeying the laws of the land, and promoting peaceful coexistence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement also urged Nigerians to look out for the vulnerable in their communities and extend charity to the less privileged. Ibrahim encouraged Muslims in Jigawa to emulate Prophet Ibrahim\u2019s devotion by sharing with neighbors and fostering unity across ethnic and religious lines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ogodo said the director appreciated the Muslim community for observing a peaceful Eid\u2011el\u2011Kabir celebration across the state. She reaffirmed that the NOA remains committed to sensitizing Nigerians on civic responsibilities, promoting national values and mobilizing citizens for positive attitudinal change toward sustainable development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eid al\u2011Adha, also known as Eid\u2011el\u2011Kabir in Nigeria, is one of the most important festivals in Islam. It commemorates Prophet Ibrahim\u2019s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God, before a ram was provided as a substitute. The festival is marked by prayers, charity, and the sharing of meat with family, friends and the needy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NOA\u2019s call reflects broader concerns about Nigeria\u2019s social cohesion at a time of economic hardship and security challenges.
