The Nyesom Wike-backed faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied reports of a planned convention to affirm former President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement issued Friday in Abuja, PDP National Publicity Secretary Jungudo Mohammed described the alleged convention, reportedly scheduled by the Tanimu Turaki-led interim committee, as \u201cfalse, misleading, and an attempt to create unnecessary political tension.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Party wishes to categorically state that no such convention, meeting, or process has been scheduled, approved, or endorsed by the leadership or any recognised organ of the Peoples Democratic Party,\u201d Mohammed said. He added that the PDP had already concluded its statutory primary elections, including those for the presidency, governorship, National Assembly, and state houses of assembly in compliance with the Electoral Act, the party\u2019s constitution, and guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mohammed urged party members and the public to disregard the reports, calling on Jonathan to publicly dissociate himself from the \u201ccharade\u201d to protect his credibility. He also asked security agencies to investigate the source of the false reports and warned that the PDP would no longer tolerate its name being dragged into disrepute through unauthorised political activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the Turaki-led interim committee had scheduled a convention in Abuja to affirm Jonathan as its candidate. Jonathan has not made any official comment regarding his ambition for the upcoming race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
