Former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege has endorsed Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi ahead of Nigeria\u2019s 2027 election, while maintaining support for key economic reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu\u2019s administration. Omo-Agege made the announcement Wednesday during an appearance on ARISE TV\u2019s The Morning Show<\/em>, following his recent resignation from the All Progressives Congress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Explaining his position, the former Delta Central senator said his departure from the APC was not voluntary, claiming the party abandoned him and more than 230,000 of his supporters in Delta State. He insisted that his views on Tinubu\u2019s economic policies, particularly the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira, remain unchanged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen Mr. President came up with the economic policies, most especially the naira floatation and subsidy removal, these are policies I supported and continue to support,\u201d Omo-Agege said. He emphasized that backing those reforms does not mean exclusive loyalty to the APC or Tinubu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He argued that Obi had also advocated similar measures, noting that his endorsement of the Labour Party candidate was based on confidence in Obi\u2019s ability to implement the reforms more effectively. \u201cEven though these policies were espoused by Mr. President, which I support, the same policies were also supported by Peter Obi,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Omo-Agege stressed that Nigerians would feel more comfortable with Obi leading the reforms, suggesting that public trust in Obi\u2019s leadership could ease resistance to the policies. He said his decision was not a reversal of his economic stance but a shift in political alignment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe question is, have I changed my opinion about this? No, I have not,\u201d he said. \u201cI just believe that under the new platform I\u2019ve gone to, these policies will continue, and Nigerians who have issues with them would feel more confident because they trust Peter Obi to make them work more than Mr. President could have done.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
