ABUJA, Nigeria (FN)<\/strong> \u2014 Political associates of former President Goodluck Jonathan cautioned Thursday against attempts by individuals to speak on his political future, insisting that only Jonathan himself can authoritatively declare his position ahead of the 2027 general election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Goodies Movement, a group of Jonathan\u2019s supporters, issued a statement after remarks attributed to former presidential aide Jude Imagwe suggested Jonathan had no interest in a political comeback. The group said Imagwe\u2019s comments should not be treated as Jonathan\u2019s official position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOnly statements issued directly by him, through officially designated representatives, or via recognized communication channels should be regarded as definitive expressions of his political position,\u201d said Sam Presto, coordinator of the movement. He urged Nigerians to disregard claims not originating from Jonathan\u2019s authorized platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The group also called on media organizations to exercise caution when reporting on Jonathan\u2019s political intentions. \u201cAny statement purporting to reflect the position of a former Head of State should be accompanied by clear evidence of authorization and current representation,\u201d Presto said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jonathan, who served as Nigeria\u2019s president from 2010 to 2015, has remained an influential figure in national politics. His name has surfaced repeatedly in conversations about the 2027 elections, though he has not publicly declared any ambition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reactions quickly spread across social media and political circles. On X, user @NaijaObserver wrote: \u201cJonathan\u2019s silence is louder than Imagwe\u2019s words. Nigerians deserve clarity, not speculation.\u201d<\/em> Another user, @AdaVoice, added: \u201cIf Jonathan wants to run, he should say so himself. No more political ventriloquism.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Policy makers also weighed in. Senator Ali Ndume told reporters: \u201cJonathan is respected across party lines. But only he can decide his future. We should avoid unnecessary distractions.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stakeholders within the ruling party expressed caution. A senior APC member, speaking on condition of anonymity, said: \u201cSpeculation about Jonathan\u2019s return is destabilizing. Until he speaks, everything else is noise.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
