AKURE, Nigeria<\/strong>\u2014 Panic gripped residents of Ugbosi Quarters in Idogun, Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State after armed men kidnapped a nine-year-old boy during a late-night attack on the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The victim, identified as Olaosebikan Victor, was taken around 1:30 a.m. when gunmen stormed his family\u2019s residence, firing shots that sent residents fleeing. His father, Olaosebikan Isaac, reportedly escaped into a nearby bush to avoid harm, while the attackers seized his son and fled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another resident, Joel Owalekan, was also targeted during the raid. The suspects allegedly damaged parts of his building while attempting to gain entry, but he managed to escape unharmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police spokesperson DSP Jimoh Abayomi confirmed that officers, alongside Amotekun Corps personnel, were deployed immediately after the incident. He said tactical units and intelligence operatives had launched search operations across nearby forests and escape routes. \u201cInvestigations have commenced, and all available resources are being deployed to ensure the safe return of the victim,\u201d Abayomi said. He urged residents to remain vigilant and provide useful information to aid the rescue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ondo State Police Command said it is collaborating with other security agencies and local vigilante groups to track down the kidnappers. Exhibits recovered from the scene are being analyzed to support the investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The abduction has sparked widespread concern. On X, user @OndoWatch wrote: \u201cIf children are no longer safe in their homes, then nowhere is safe. The government must act fast.\u201d<\/em> Another user, @NaijaParents, added: \u201cThis is heartbreaking. Parents live in fear every night. We need stronger community policing.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Policy makers also reacted. Ondo State lawmaker Olajide Adewale said: \u201cKidnapping has become a menace in our state. We must strengthen Amotekun and local vigilantes to protect our communities.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Civil society voices echoed the urgency. Human rights lawyer Femi Falana stated: \u201cThe abduction of a nine-year-old is a crime against humanity. Security agencies must intensify efforts to rescue the child and bring the perpetrators to justice.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Community leaders in Idogun appealed for calm but demanded swift action. Chief Samuel Ojo, a local elder, said: \u201cWe cannot sleep with both eyes closed anymore. The government must secure our villages.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
