BAUCHI, Nigeria<\/strong> \u2014 At least seven people were killed and 50 huts razed in a violent clash between farmers and herders in Lanzai and Dosho communities of Darazo Local Government Area of Bauchi State, police said Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib confirmed that suspected herders attacked farmers applying local fertilizer on their land at the outskirts of Lanzai. In reprisal, youths from the community mobilized and set fire to Dosho, a Fulani settlement, destroying dozens of huts and household goods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe incident led to the death of seven persons, while six people sustained various degrees of injuries and are currently receiving medical attention,\u201d Habib said. \u201cExtensive damage was also recorded on residential structures and personal belongings.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that tactical operatives were deployed immediately to restore order, while the Violent Crime Response Unit was sent as reinforcement. Patrols have been intensified in Lanzai, Dosho, and adjoining communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolorin Aliyu directed a thorough investigation into both the immediate and remote causes of the incident. He assured that perpetrators of both the initial attack and the reprisal would be prosecuted. \u201cWe appeal to community leaders and residents to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands,\u201d Aliyu said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reactions poured in across social media and policy circles. On X, @BauchiWatch wrote: \u201cThis cycle of violence must end. Farmers and herders need dialogue, not bloodshed.\u201d<\/em> Another user, @NaijaPeace, added: \u201cFifty huts burned, seven lives lost. Communities are being destroyed while government promises investigations.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Civil society voices echoed the urgency. Human rights lawyer Femi Falana said: \u201cThe farmer-herder crisis is a national emergency. The government must prioritize mediation, justice, and security to prevent further carnage.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Local stakeholders expressed grief and frustration. A community elder in Lanzai, Mallam Musa Ibrahim, told reporters: \u201cWe are tired of burying our people. We need lasting peace, not temporary patrols.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Policy makers also weighed in. Senator Bala Mohammed remarked: \u201cThe Darazo clash is a reminder that the farmer-herder conflict remains unresolved. We must strengthen local conflict resolution mechanisms and ensure justice for victims.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
