He said the initiative was designed to attract the brightest minds into government service and strengthen its capacity for effective delivery.

“When I assumed office, I introduced automatic employment for students who graduated with first-class degrees. We implemented this policy at Umaru Musa Yar’adua University and other institutions located in Katsina State,” Radda said. “Today, I am pleased to expand the offer to all Katsina State students across the country who graduate with first-class degrees from this year onward.”

The governor explained that recruiting top graduates would help build one of the most efficient civil services in Nigeria within the next decade. He added that his administration had prioritized settling outstanding scholarship obligations and increasing bursary allowances to encourage students to remain in school.

According to Radda, the government has also reduced the number of out-of-school children in the state, preventing many from drifting into social vices. Education, he said, remains a top priority, with a substantial share of the state budget consistently allocated to the sector.

Observers note that the policy reflects broader efforts in Nigeria to address youth unemployment and strengthen public institutions. Analysts say similar initiatives could help retain talent in government service, though questions remain about long-term sustainability and whether civil service structures can absorb large numbers of graduates.

Globally, education to employment programs are seen as critical in bridging the gap between academic achievement and workforce readiness. International organizations have encouraged African governments to adopt policies that reward excellence while ensuring equal access to opportunities.

For Katsina State, the initiative signals a deliberate attempt to harness academic talent for governance, while offering students a clear incentive to pursue excellence in higher education.

KANO, Nigeria (AP) — Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda says indigenes of the state who graduate with first-class degrees from universities across Nigeria will be offered automatic employment in the state civil service.
