Sudan’s military says it has captured the strategic town of Bara in North Kordofan State, describing the operation as one of its most important battlefield gains in recent months. The claim comes as government forces continue their campaign against the rival Rapid Support Forces, known as the RSF. The RSF had not responded to the military’s statement at the time of publication, and the reported gains could not be independently verified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the Sudanese Armed Forces, its troops took control of Bara and several surrounding communities after intense fighting. Military officials said the operation was aimed at reopening key supply routes and reducing pressure on the city of El Obeid, which has faced repeated attacks and severe humanitarian challenges during the conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bara is regarded as a strategic location because it connects several major roads linking central and western Sudan. Military analysts say control of the town could strengthen the army’s ability to move personnel and supplies while improving access to areas that have been difficult to reach because of the fighting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The latest announcement marks another chapter in the conflict that has gripped Sudan since April 2023.
