The Federal Government has assured Nigerians that no qualified student will be denied access to higher education because of financial hardship, saying President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has introduced reforms aimed at removing financial barriers to tertiary education. The government said the administration has also invested more than N1 trillion in universities, polytechnics and colleges of education to improve learning facilities and expand access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The assurance was given by the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, during a meeting with members of the National Committee for the Advancement of Occupational Therapy, Audiology and Speech and Language Therapy Education. According to a statement issued by the minister’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Ikharo Attah, the administration remains committed to ensuring that every qualified Nigerian, regardless of economic background, has access to quality tertiary education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Alausa said President Tinubu had made human capital development a priority by introducing student-focused policies that ensure financial constraints no longer prevent young Nigerians from pursuing university or other higher education opportunities. He said the reforms are designed to empower students, improve their future prospects and enable them to contribute meaningfully to national and global development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The minister said the government’s commitment has been backed by investments exceeding N1 trillion over the past two years. He disclosed that N250 billion has been allocated for the construction of new student hostels, while more than N150 billion has been invested in renovating existing hostels, classrooms, engineering workshops and other academic infrastructure. He added that over N130 billion has been committed to rehabilitating medical schools, with another N52 billion approved for modern equipment in 18 medical schools and nearly N30 billion invested in establishing 11 advanced medical simulation laboratories to strengthen clinical training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Education stakeholders have welcomed continued investment in tertiary institutions but say effective implementation, transparency and sustained funding will be critical to achieving the reforms’ objectives. Analysts also note that expanding access to higher education remains central to improving workforce skills, increasing employment opportunities and supporting Nigeria’s long-term economic growth.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
