An Australian woman accused of detaining an alleged intruder and assaulting two other men with a baseball bat has been charged after an incident that authorities say began at her home. Kylee Barbette Robinson, 52, an NDIS support worker, allegedly discovered a man inside a shed at her property and confronted him with a baseball bat, according to evidence presented in a bail hearing. NDIS, or National Disability Insurance Scheme, is Australia\u2019s government-funded program supporting eligible people with disabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police allege Robinson then restrained the man with a chain and padlock around his neck and ordered him to identify the location of property she believed had been stolen from her. The man allegedly led her to a nearby homeless encampment, where she is accused of confronting and assaulting two other men.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The alleged confrontation later extended to a vehicle, which police say Robinson struck with the baseball bat, damaging its windshield as she attempted to retrieve possessions she believed had been stolen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police were called to a nearby park at about 8:30 p.m. following reports of an assault. Officers were reportedly told that a woman had attacked a man after allegedly finding him on her property. A 44-year-old man was treated by paramedics for facial injuries before being taken to a hospital for further treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Robinson was arrested Monday evening and appeared in court as authorities considered her bail. The allegations have not been established in court, and Robinson is entitled to the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The case has renewed familiar questions surrounding the limits of self-defense and citizens taking the law into their own hands. In Australia, as in many other countries, self-defense laws generally recognize a person’s right to protect themselves or their property in certain circumstances, but the force used must meet legal requirements.
