Aniekan Johnson has announced his acceptance of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) nomination to contest the Ibesikpo Asutan State Constituency seat in the 2027 general elections. The announcement comes ahead of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s expected publication of the list of candidates for the election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Johnson described his decision as an opportunity to contribute to public service and strengthen representation in Ibesikpo Asutan, emphasizing that political leadership should be measured by its commitment to citizens and the public interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis decision is not about the pursuit of power. It is about service, responsible representation and the belief that politics should improve the lives of the people it serves,\u201d Johnson said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nigeria’s democratic history provides important context for the 2027 elections. Since gaining independence in 1960, the country has experienced periods of civilian government, military rule and political transition before returning to sustained civilian rule in 1999.
