U.S. officials said American forces had not attacked Kharg, while Iranian authorities said operations there were continuing normally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Kharg Island is especially important because it handles most of Iran\u2019s crude exports. Any real attack on the facility could sharply reduce Iranian oil shipments and trigger another jump in global prices. The broader conflict has already disrupted trade, displaced civilians and increased pressure on governments across the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For consumers thousands of miles from the Gulf, the consequences could still be felt through higher petrol prices, more expensive flights and rising shipping costs.
