<\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\nINEC said campaign language becomes a serious concern when it is used to threaten voters, opponents or election officials, or when it could worsen religious, ethnic or regional tensions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The warning comes after several controversial comments by political figures in recent weeks. Some remarks have drawn criticism from opposition parties, civil society groups and members of the public who fear that aggressive rhetoric could create tension before the election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
INEC said it would continue to monitor campaign activities and hold political parties accountable where necessary. The commission, however, noted that criminal threats and acts of violence remain matters for the police and other security agencies to investigate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Concerns over inflammatory language are not new in Nigerian politics. Similar warnings were issued before the 2023 general election, when authorities raised concerns about hate speech, misinformation, ethnic divisions and clashes between rival supporters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Nigeria\u2019s elections have often been closely watched because of the country\u2019s size, regional influence and history of politically related violence. The 2027 vote is expected to attract intense competition as parties begin building alliances and positioning candidates for national and state offices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n INEC said keeping the campaign peaceful will require cooperation from more than political parties.
