{"id":9652,"date":"2020-07-06T14:40:08","date_gmt":"2020-07-06T14:40:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.funminews.com\/?p=9652"},"modified":"2020-07-06T14:40:08","modified_gmt":"2020-07-06T14:40:08","slug":"edo-2020-inec-lifts-ban-on-campaigns-distributes-non-sensitive-materials","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.funminews.com\/index.php\/2020\/07\/06\/edo-2020-inec-lifts-ban-on-campaigns-distributes-non-sensitive-materials\/","title":{"rendered":"Edo 2020: INEC lifts ban on campaigns, distributes non-sensitive materials"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has lifted the ban on campaigns by political parties in Edo State ahead of the Sept. 19 governorship election the state.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Timidi Wariowei, the INEC Head of Voter Education in Edo, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin that the campaigns officially commenced on June 21.<ins><ins><\/ins><\/ins><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wariowei said: \u201cCampaigns have officially started in the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCampaigns starts 90 days to election and it started on June 21.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Non-sensitive materials distributed<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wariowei also disclosed that the office had taken delivery of some non-sensitive materials and distributed same to the 18 local government areas of the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe reason we distributed materials early is because the office we are occupying now has a small storage capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe storage facility cannot accommodate all the materials, so as the materials come we dispatch to our local government offices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe non-sensitive materials we have received so far are not complete so as they come in batches we distribute because of lack of space to keep them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Wariowei, the total registered voters as at 2019 is 2,210,534, while uncollected PVCs stand at 483,868.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NAN reports that INEC has cleared and displayed list of candidates of 14 registered political parties, including the All Progressives Congress and Peoples Democratic Party being the major contenders, ahead of the polls.
