Immigration rules due to COVID-19 now allows for one to switch into a family or private life route provided the requirements of the Immigration Rules are met.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The application must be done by 30 July 2020 to the latest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Switching from a visit visa to Family route may lead to British Citizenship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Family visas: apply, extend or switch<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Overview<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>You need a family visa to live with a family member in the UK for more than 6 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"if-youre-outside-the-uk\">If you\u2019re outside the UK<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You can apply for a family visa to live with your:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>spouse or partner<\/li><li>fianc\u00e9, fianc\u00e9e or proposed civil partner<\/li><li>child<\/li><li>parent<\/li><li>relative who\u2019ll provide long-term care for you<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"if-youre-in-the-uk\">If you\u2019re in the UK<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You can apply to extend your stay with your family member if you\u2019re already in the UK on a family visa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you came to the UK on a different visa, you might be able to switch to a family visa to stay with your:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>spouse or partner<\/li><li>child<\/li><li>parent<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You might be able to apply to stay on the basis of your private life if you\u2019ve lived in the UK for many years already.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"when-you-can-apply-to-extend-or-switch\">When you can apply to extend or switch<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can extend or switch at any time before your current permission to stay in the UK expires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You must live in the UK for a certain amount of time before you\u2019re eligible for settlement (\u2018indefinite leave to remain\u2019) &#8211; check how much time you need before you extend your visa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re extending to stay with the same family member, you\u2019ll only get up to 28 days left on your current stay added to your new visa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"fees\">Fees<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>How much it costs depends on how you apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure otherwise it might cancel your payment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"healthcare-surcharge\">Healthcare surcharge<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You might also need to pay the healthcare surcharge as part of your application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"if-youre-applying-to-extend-or-switch-in-the-uk\">If you\u2019re applying to extend or switch in the UK<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ll need to pay \u00a319.20 to have your biometric information (fingerprints and a photo) taken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"get-a-faster-decision-on-your-application\">Get a faster decision on your application<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re applying from the UK, you may be able to pay an extra \u00a3800 for the super priority service to get a faster decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You cannot use the super priority service if you\u2019re applying as an adult coming to be cared for by a relative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you\u2019ve got your decision letter, your biometric residence permit will take up to 10 working days to arrive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"how-long-it-takes\">How long it takes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you apply outside the UK a decision will usually be made within 12 weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you apply in the UK a decision will usually be made within 8 weeks of your application date if you use the standard service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you use the super priority service a decision will usually be made:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>by the end of the next working day after providing your biometric information if your appointment is on a weekday<\/li><li>2 working days after providing your biometric information if your appointment is at the weekend<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Working days are Monday to Friday, not including bank holidays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It might take longer if your application is complex, for example you:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>do not meet the minimum income requirement<\/li><li>cannot prove your knowledge of English<\/li><li>need to attend an interview<\/li><li>have not provided all the evidence that the Home Office needs<\/li><li>have a criminal conviction or another personal circumstance that needs to be reviewed<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"other-ways-you-can-stay\">Other ways you can stay<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"you-were-the-victim-of-domestic-abuse-or-your-partner-died\">You were the victim of domestic abuse or your partner died<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You might be able to apply to settle in the UK if you had permission to stay in the UK as a partner when either:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>you were the victim of domestic abuse<\/li><li>your partner died<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"your-family-member-has-refugee-status-or-humanitarian-protection\">Your family member has refugee status or humanitarian protection<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You might be able to apply for \u2018family reunion\u2019 to join a partner or parent who has either:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>refugee status in the UK<\/li><li>humanitarian protection in the UK<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"your-family-member-is-from-the-eu-eea-or-switzerland\">Your family member is from the EU, EEA or Switzerland<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re outside the UK, you can apply for a family permit if your family member is from the European Economic Area or Switzerland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your family member will probably need to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme to continue living in the UK after 30 June 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There will be no change to the rights and status of EU citizens currently living in the UK until 30 June 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"when-you-cannot-get-a-family-visa\">When you cannot get a family visa<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In some circumstances you cannot apply for, or switch to, a family visa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"your-family-member-has-a-work-visa-or-student-visa\">Your family member has a work visa or student visa<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You cannot apply for a family visa if your family member is in the UK temporarily on a work visa or student visa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can apply to stay with them as a dependant instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"you-have-a-visitor-visa-or-a-visa-for-6-months-or-less\">You have a visitor visa or a visa for 6 months or less<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ll usually need to leave the UK to apply for a family visa if either:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>you have permission to be in the UK as a visitor<\/li><li>your visa is for 6 months or less<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>However, you might be able to switch to a family visa in the UK if you have either:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>a 6-month family visa as a fianc\u00e9, fianc\u00e9e or proposed civil partner<\/li><li>permission to stay in the UK for the outcome of a family court case or divorce<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information call the British Embassy in
