JOS, Nigeria (FN) — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has inaugurated the 40kilometer Babban Lamba Sharam Road Project in Plateau State, underscoring his administration’s commitment to expanding infrastructure as a driver of economic growth and national integration.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Tinubu said the project reflects his government’s determination to improve road networks across Nigeria, reduce travel time, and boost trade and agricultural productivity in rural communities.

“This road is not just about connecting towns; it is about connecting people, markets, and opportunities,” Tinubu said, reaffirming that infrastructure remains a cornerstone of his Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Babban Lamba Sharam Road is expected to ease movement between Plateau’s farming communities and urban centers, enhancing access to markets and reducing post-harvest losses. Local leaders welcomed the project, noting that poor road conditions have long hindered economic activity in the region.

Infrastructure development has been a recurring theme in Tinubu’s presidency, with ongoing projects including highways, bridges, and energy facilities. Analysts say such investments are critical for Nigeria’s long-term growth, though they caution that funding constraints and security challenges could slow progress.

International observers view Nigeria’s infrastructure push as part of a broader effort to attract investment and strengthen regional trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area. Improved road networks are seen as vital for linking Nigeria’s vast population and diverse economy.

For Plateau State, the project is expected to bring immediate benefits, including job creation during construction and improved access to healthcare and education facilities once completed.
