The Bauchi State Government has taken a significant step towards enhancing the welfare of its civil servants by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Joint Action Committee of the Academic and Non-Academic Staff Unions. The Bauchi State Head of Service, Barrister Muhammad Sani, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of civil servants. Represented by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education, Ali Babayo, Sani emphasized that civil servants are the backbone of the administration, and their efforts are crucial to the successful implementation of government policies and programs. He urged the organized trade unions to maintain industrial peace and harmony in the workforce, while also charging civil servants to reciprocate the government’s gestures by doubling their efforts in discharging their duties.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Bauchi State Council, Comrade Dauda Shuaibu, assured that labour leaders in the state would continue to advocate for the rights of workers. However, he reminded civil servants to differentiate between their rights and privileges. Shuaibu appreciated the seamless conduct of the negotiations and appealed for a 100% implementation of the agreement when the state’s economy improves.
The Chairman of the Joint Action Committee of Academic and Non-Academic Staff Unions, Bauchi State, Comrade Abubakar Ahmed, explained that the signing of the agreement documents follows months of negotiation with the government. He charged all members to complement the governor’s efforts by dedicating themselves to their official responsibilities. Ahmed also urged the government to faithfully implement all agreed items in the MoU.
The signing ceremony, which took place on Thursday at the Conference Hall of the State Head of Service, was witnessed by notable government officials and representatives of trade union leaders.
