A disturbing video has gone viral on social media, showing armed men believed to be operatives of Operation Udo Ga-Achi, also known as the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, storming a corps members’ lodge in Anambra State and assaulting a female corps member identified as Jennifer Edema Elohor and some of her colleagues. The incident occurred on July 23, 2025, when the vigilante group accused the corps members of being “yahoo people” (internet fraudsters) despite their prompt production of NYSC identification cards and uniforms.
The video, shared by the Haven 360 Foundation on Facebook, shows Elohor being beaten and stripped naked by men wielding guns, while her colleagues and other eyewitnesses plead for the assault to stop. The foundation strongly condemned the brutal assault and violation of rights of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, describing the incident as “particularly egregious” in Elohor’s case, who was left exposed and covered in blood.
The Anambra State Government has strongly condemned the act of violence and harassment, describing it as “unfortunate and unacceptable”. The state Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, said the government would ensure that all those involved face the full weight of the law. The government has also assured members of the public, particularly youth corps members in the state, that they have nothing to fear from the state’s security outfits.
The Anambra State Government has confirmed the arrest and detention of members of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group involved in the assault. Ken Emeakayi, Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, described the assault as “unfortunate and unacceptable”, and assured that disciplinary measures would be taken against the operatives involved.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many Nigerians condemning the brutality and demanding justice for the victims. The Haven 360 Foundation has called on the Anambra State Government to identify and prosecute the perpetrators, and for the Federal Government to intervene and ensure justice is served. The foundation is also demanding reparations and compensation for the victims.
